It's Been 40 Years!

Forty years ago today, we were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, Iowa.

My mother made my wedding gown and headpiece, the latter of which was constructed with pipe cleaners! We had a small wedding with about 60 guests that cost $521. I still have the budget record to prove it. Our cake/punch/mints reception was in the church basement.

Last week we attended a social with a Hawaiian luau theme and this picture was taken of us. We've changed a little bit since 1972.

Our son, DIL and two year-old grandson who live in Tampa are visiting us. We haven't yet decided how we're celebrating! Linda

  1. Happy Anniversary! 40 years is quite an achievement, especially nowadays. You looked so cute on your wedding day and still do. It's quite obvious how devoted you both are to each other. Hoping for many, many more happy years together. xx

  13. Happy Anniversary, Linda and Dan! You haven't changed much at all, and it's obvious that retirement suits you both. Funny, my bridal headpiece was very similar to yours, it must have been the popular style for 1972 :-)) I hope your celebration is simply wonderful (once you decide how you'll mark the occasion, that is).

  17. Happy 40th to both of you, you both look so young and having fun. We just had our 47th this July. I don't know where the years have gone to. We didn't really celebrate much this year, thought we would wait till 50th and do it big.
I been thinking about you and wondering if this storm is affecting you much. I don't remember exactly where you live in Florida. Hope all is well. Blessings Sandra

  18. Congratulations to you, Linda, and your hubby, too! I was just catching up on my blog reading and came across your anniversary post. My hubby and I were married just a week after you. We celebrated 40 yrs. on 9/2/12...yesterday. And we were married in Oelwein, IA, where I grew up. My folks are still there and a couple of brothers, too. My Mom made my wedding dress and headpiece also, although it wasn't made like yours. Too funny! This last week we have been in Florida looking for a house. We contracted for a place in Palm Coast, FL. We aren't looking forward to the packing, but it will be nice not to have to rake leaves or shovel snow again this year. Blessings to you both. Maybe we can get together some day in the near future.
